Drift Boat Tarpon Fishing is exactly what it sounds like: chasing tarpon from a drift boat with a fly rod in your hand! If you’ve ever thrown streamers on a western trout river, then you know the drill. The Drift Boat Tarpon Club takes everything you love about western-style streamer fishing and drops it into a tropical river system loaded with tarpon, snook, and machaca.
This is a truly, one-of-a-kind experience that has never been done before!
Getting to Panama
Getting to Panama is pretty easy. When you book your flight, your visa is automatically included, all you need is a valid passport. A private driver picks you up and takes you straight to the lodge.
Just Like Western Streamer Fishing… just with Tarpon!
If you enjoy throwing streamers for brown trout on the western rivers, you’ll love throwing them to rolling tarpon! These tarpon sit on seams, hold behind structure, slide into soft water, and feed on predictable lanes. The drift boat allows you to manuever like you would on the Colorado, Madison, or Yellowstone River.
Most of your presentations are 30-40 feet; it’s close, visual, and extremely engaging!
The Best Time to Escape Winter
Prime season runs from December through May. Perfect time of year, if you’re looking to get away from the cold and snow. This is Panama’s dry season which yields warm and sunny weather. Expect days around 90 degrees, light breezes, and plenty of sunshine!

This isn’t your resort style trip that just happens to have fishing available. This is a fishing lodge and that’s what they’re all about: fishing. Small group sizes, comfortable casitas, great food and a family friendly environment make it a great place to provide you a memorable week.
Your Week in Panama
You land in Panama on Sunday afternoon. A driver is waiting on you to take you to the lodge, which is about 45 minutes away. You arrive at the Drift Boat Tarpon Club lodge, which is a little jungle compound, nestled in a tiny town that’s like a hidden gym that you’ve been invited into.
Upon your arrival at the lodge, someone hands you a cold drink and shows you to your casita – a clean, air-conditioned shipping-container cabin with two beds, a private bathroom, Wi-Fi, with an elegant simplicity. You get unpacked and start envisioning seeing rolling tarpon from the leg locks of a drift boat.
Mornings on the River
Every day starts around 5:30 AM, with coffee and a hot breakfast. By 6:30, you’re on the river fishing for tarpon! There are 40 miles of river and every day you could be on a different stretch, depending on conditions. Some days it’s glassy and quiet and other days the jungle feels alive around you with Howler monkeys and birds you’ve never seen before.
Around mid-day, you’ll stop for a quick lunch break, but you’ll get back after the fishing until around 2:30 / 3:00 PM. By then, the heat kicks in and the fishing slows down. You’ll head back to the lodge with time to chill, get cleaned up for dinner.
